"A Rose Bouquet"

Bill Bachhuber, Photographer
Sharon Guthrie, Joy Nichols
& Paula Chipman,
Quilt Designers

The Raffle Quilt for our 32nd Annual Quilt Show has been named "A Rose Bouquet". The quilt measures approximately 94" X 102". It is hand-appliqued, machine-pieced and hand-quilted, and is valued at $1,000+.

Raffle Tickets went on sale September 22, 2005, at the Northwest Quilting Expo. 341 tickets were sold. Tickets are $1.00. The drawing is on June 12, 2006 at the General Meeting.

Sharon Guthrie and Joy Nichols introduced the quilt to members at our March 2004 General Meeting. This Raffle Quilt is an original NWQ design. The Quilt has a cream background with an applique of spring green scallops surrounding a multi-colored rose bouquet designed and sewn by Joy Nichols. The border is a collection of three paper-pieced rose blossoms and buds designed by Sharon Guthrie and sewn by NWQ members. Paula Chipman designed the quilt pattern for the cream background which is lavishly hand-quilted by our NWQ members. A limited number of kits for the paper-pieced rose blossoms and buds were assigned to members at the March 2004 meeting. Congratulations to Liz Heinz who was the first member to complete and return a rose block for the border!

Kits are available at the General Meetings.

Excerpts from the new Ouilting Challenge magazine, Premier Issue for 2006: "How Judging Works -- Here are commonly held standards that judges use:

General Appearance --
An overall positive visual statement; clean and 'ready to show'; edges which are not distorted.

Design and Composition --
All the individual design elements -- top, quilting, choice of fabric, colors, sashes, borders, embellishments, finishing are unified.

Workmanship --
Precise piecing, seams, applique, curves, shadowing, threads, even stitches, top and bottom, and even tension, particularly when done by machine."
