Community Outreach Committee takes Northwest Quilters to community programs, including schools, fairs, and special community events.  It supports veterans in our community through the Christmas Stocking program, which includes sewing stockings from kits cut by our volunteers; collecting "stuffers" for those stockings from a designated list; and sewing pillowcases from kits distributed during the Autumn.  All these items are distributed through community agencies in November-December.  Community Outreach supports the Quilts of Valor® Foundation by making and awarding patriotic quilts to active military and living veterans touched by war. (See additional information here.)
Gail Planck is the coordinator of the year-round Kids' Pillowcase Project, which collects standard-sized individually made pillowcases for long-term hospitalized kids (up to age 18) at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.  Use your own kid-friendly 100% cotton fabric or sew up a kit available at general meetings.
